Susan was born a storyteller. As a young New Yorker, growing up in a brownstone in Greenwich Village with her brother Michael, she had plenty of inspiration! She kept a piece of chalk in her pocket (for spontaneous hopscotch) and her skate key around her neck, ready for the next adventure and a journal for writing down all she saw and imagined whenever it hit her.
Her own story ultimately brought her out East to the sea, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and a Master’s in Reading Remediation and become an elementary school teacher in Bridgehampton. After being in the classroom for several years, she then became a mother of 3, a children’s book author and certified kids yoga and mindfulness instructor. Susan believes in finding balance in life and incorporates everyday mindfulness practices into her writing and parenting. Her award-winning stories inspire children to celebrate their own, unique stories and journey. Her writing also inspires adults to let their inner child out dream of infinite possibilities… and maybe come out for a spontaneous game of hopscotch every now and then.
From art and yoga to lifelong friendships and more, Susan’s books are used in classrooms, yoga studios and beyond to teach children how to feel good about themselves and how to support one another in their pursuits — no matter how small they may seem!
Susan’s books, including “The Museum”, “You & Me”, “I Am Yoga”, and “the Water Princess,” are part of a series of collaborations she has worked on with illustrator and dear friend, the best-selling, award-winning author, Peter H. Reynolds. Susan’s next project is “My Kicks,” illustrated by Katie Kath is due out April 17, 2017.
Susan currently resides in East Hampton, New York with her three children Josh, Gabe and Sophia, and dog, Gizmo.
